In fusing, pieces of cut glass of varying shapes and sizes, compatible for fusing are layered and combined to form a composition. They are placed on a refractory surface or a mould of the desired shape.
The material is melted at a temperature of between 800 and 850°C and brought back to room temperature slowly. The whole cycle takes between 8 and 12 hours. Glass powders, frit and murrine can be used in decorative compositions.
The beauty of this technique is that each piece will always be unique and never replicated. With glass fusing, character can be added to doors, tables, cabinet doors and furniture applying tiles using resin.
Fusing is also widely used to create home decor items and small objects such as plates, small containers, ashtrays and vases.
